Cocoa Divine Scrub - Jo's Organic Beauty

Sugar:

First, sugar is a natural humectant, meaning it draws moisture from the environment into the skin. So when you apply products with sugar or sugar derivatives, they’ll actually help hydrate your skin and keep moisture within. Secondly, sugar is a natural source of glycolic acid, and alpha hydroxy acid (AHA) that penetrates the skin and breaks down the “glue” that bonds skin cells, encouraging cell turnover and generating fresher, younger-looking skin. Because glycolic acid — and all AHAs — exfoliate the top layer of skin, it’s important to always follow with a sunscreen if going out during daylight hours to avoid damaging the tender skin. (x) Raw sugar also reduces skin pigmentation by forcing melanin out of skin cells through the lymphatic system, and then out of the body. Raw sugar is considered an antioxidant due to its ability to protect cells from damage caused by oxygen and free radicals. (x)

Chocolate:

With at least 70 percent cocoa, dark chocolate is the only chocolate which delivers beauty benefits. Flavonoid, a naturally occurring plant substance in cocoa, improves blood flow to the skin, skin hydration and complexion, absorbs UV light and protects skin against sun-induced damage. Cocoa helps in reducing the stress hormones, resulting in less collagen breakdown in the skin decreasing the wrinkles. Antioxidants present in dark chocolate help your skin look its best, fights free radicals and improves hydration and thickness, which are important for having a young looking skin. (x)

Honey:

Honey's natural antioxidant and anti-microbial properties help to protect the skin from the damage of the sun's rays, supports the skin's ability to rejuvenate and refresh depleted skin, leaving it feeling silky soft and supple. One of the most common natural skin care benefits with honey is related to treatment of minor acne acne which could be caused by hormonal changes or "heatiness in the body", as traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) would call it to refer to the imbalance of yin and yang in the body. Honey absorbs impurities from the pores on the skin, making it an ideal cleansing agent. With the wide-ranging of natural skin care recipes, it is no wonder that there exists a huge number of honey products in the market for hair care, baby care, skin care for sunscreen, hand lotions, facial scrubs and moisturizers. (x)

Vitamin E Oil:

Vitamin E prevents water loss from the skin, and helps it to retain its natural moisture. Thus, it makes dull, dry skin look healthy and well-moisturized. If it is used for the purpose of deep pore cleansing of dry skin on a regular basis, it restores the normal oil balance of the skin. (x)

Usage Instructions:

“Wet your face, take a small portion of the scrub and gently scrub in circular directions. The scrub will melt on the face. Wash off. Do it for 5-10 minutes. Use twice a week.”

My Thoughts:

Chocolate Scrub by Jo’s Organic Beauty had been my staple skincare product for a long time. Naturally, I was intrigued by the Cocoa Divine Scrub from the Cocoa Divine Series, which was  launched earlier this year. It is an upgraded version of the Chocolate Scrub, which used to come in a 100 grams jar that was sold like hot cakes. For reference, see the images below.

The Cocoa Divine Scrub comes in a simple yet sturdy plastic jar with the label of the brand, which carries information on how to use and containing 250 grams of the product, however, the quantity of the scrub is not mentioned on the jar. I scoop out a tablespoon of the product with a plastic spoon, moisten it adding a few drops of water to prevent fallouts during application. After rubbing it on my face gently, in circular motions, I let the residue sit there for a couple of minutes and then wash it off. The finely raw cane sugar exfoliating grains are not too abrasive. It melts like a dream, and the fragrance of chocolate works takes you to Charlie’s Chocolate factory. Lol. It actually feels like digging your face in a non-sticky pool of chocolate. It’s hard to resist licking it up! Upon washing, it leaves my otherwise dry skin adequately hydrate, soft and supple.

I have been using the Cocoa Divine Scrub twice a week for more than a month and I’ve noticed a remarkable difference in my skin tone. Raw cane sugar acts as a great exfoliant, so the scrub reduces the appearance of blackheads and whiteheads as well. Regular use has also indicated signs of the decrease in pigmentation around the lips. Besides, it’s perfect for summers because it removes sun tan like anything. It also lives up to its claim of imparting a healthy glow to the skin. So, it’s a completely win-win situation.

Pro Tips for Storage & Use:
  • Store this 100 % natural, preservative/paraben free product in a refrigerator to increase the longevity and maintain its quality at the same time.
  • To prevent contamination, use a dry plastic or wooden spoon to scoop out the product.
  • To prevent fallouts, mix a few drops of water with the scrub in the palm of your hand prior to application.
  • Be careful not to add too much water , else it will dissolve the sugar there and then and there won’t be any exfoliating grains left for scrubbing :P
Yays:
  • Handmade.
  • Sturdy, travel-friendly packaging.
  • Free from toxic chemicals and preservatives.
  • Cruelty-free.
  • Smells divine.
  • Moisturising.
  • Ideal for gentle skin exfoliation.
  • Revitalizes the skin.
  • Reduces tan if used on a regular basis (twice a week).
Nays:
  • None.
Price & Availability:

The Cocoa Divine Scrub by Jo’s Organic Beauty is priced at PKR 700/- for 250 gms and can either be purchased online through the brand’s official facebook page HERE or any of its official stockists artsy.pk, and sheops.

Final Verdict:

I’m definitely going to purchase the Cocoa Divine Scrub again because it lives up to all its claims like one faithful friend. I cannot imagine my life without this scrub because my hunt for a scrub which is hydrating and reduces tan ends here. The fact that it is handcrafted, and contains the goodness of Belgium chocolate blended with raw cane sugar should be the reason enough for y’all to give it a shot!
