Most Anticipated Movies of Autumn '16
One of the new series on the blog, 'Flickster' , as the name suggests, is going to be all about our take on different 'flicks'. Since many Pakistani and Indian flicks are releasing this fall around Eid-ul-Azha, Diwaali and Christmas, today I am presenting the first post from this series. So, all you gotta do is grab your popcorn and get ready to watch the trailers and video songs (only those I liked. YAAAS!) to be in a better position to decide on which of the Pakistani and Indian movies releasing this fall are worth your bucks. Hurry up as some of these release tomorrow and next Friday.

P.S. The numbering of the movies follows the chronological order of their release date.

        1. Baar Baar Dekho – Release Date: September 9, 2016.

While I am not a fan of masala films that it appeared to be like from the Kaala Chashma video song, I watched the trailer only after watching KJ’s interview where he said that he has not read a Baar Baar Dekho over a decade or so. Why does this one seem to be inspired by 17 Again and Going 13 On 30. WHY? If it actually turned out to be largely inspired from these, I’d wear my Kaala Chashma all through the movie. Like every other girl out there, I am a Siddharth Malhotra fan, but I do not have very high hopes with this one.

        2. Freaky Ali – Release Date: September 9, 2016.

Starring the incredible Nawazzudin Siddiqui, Freaky Ali is a sport-y rom-com alongside Amy Jackson and Sohail Khan, this is a must watch. To know more, you HAVE to watch the trailer.

         3. Janaan – Release Date: September 13, 2016.

The sweet title song of Janaan’s OST by Armaan Malik and the beautiful Pashto song Reid-i-Gul from the movie have already taken the internet by storm. Screenplay by the talented Osman Khalid Butt a.k.a. OKB, interestingly co-produced by Mehreen Farooq, and featuring the ever so gorgeous Armeena Rana Khan and the hilarious Ali Rehman Khan, and the dimple guy Bilal Ashraf, who is better known as “the Siddharth Malhotra of Pakistan”, I am pretty excited for this one.  It has been shot in Swat, guys! If you want to watch a light movie with great cinematography and are intrigued to see the lighter side of the Pakhtun culture against the stereotypical image with clichéd patriarchic roles that we are done watching, this one is for you. While it will be in theatres all across Pakistan and 17 other countries including India this Eid-ul-Azha, i.e., September 13, until then you can watch the trailer and the tracks from the movie.

4. Actor in Law - Release Date: September 13, 2016.

The comic satire, Actor in Law, which features Fahad Mustafa alongside Mehwish Hayat in the main lead. The former plays the character of a guy who is passionate for acting but succumbs to his father’s wishes and ends up taking the role of a lawyer. Interestingly, the father’s character is played by none other than the legendary, Om Puri. Meanwhile, check out the trailer and the song Dil Ye Dancer Ho Gaya by Atif Aslam from its OST.

         5. Ae Dil Hai Mushkil – Release Date: October 28, 2016.

Although, ADHM is slated for an October 28 release, it is one movie I am desperately looking forward to. Directed by Karan Johar, it stars the most talented heartthrob of Bollywood, Ranbir Kapoor alongside Anushka Sharma and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and a “special” appearance by Fawad Khan. I’m glued to the teaser and the title song from the OST of this movie like butter is hooked to bread, masala to fries and chocolates to.. well, almost everybody! Every time I watch it, the restless soul in me ends up reading the plot of the movie in a different way. While Ranbir Kapoor’s charming yet intense expressions are to die for (as always), Fawad’s charismatic personality as one only catches only a few glimpses of him in the teaser and music video, are sure to make one swoon. While RK’s chemistry with Anushka comes as no surprise before they have worked in Bombay Velvet before, I’m amazed to see that he looks compatible with a senior actress like Aishwarya too. Totally not expecting it to be the usual story of unrequited love. Surely gonna watch this one in theatres. Till then, watching the teaser and title track once again won’t hurt except.. making one more restless. Ahem.

         6. Dobara Phir Se – Initial Release Date: November 25, 2016.

The fact that it stars Sanam Saeed and Hareem Farooq, who are known for taking daring roles and pulling them off well AND has been directed by none other than the mastermind, Mehreen Jabbar should be convincing enough to give it a go. For me the cherry on top is that it stars my man crush Adeel Hussain and one of the first-ever crushes, Ali Kazmi. The movie, which is apparently a tale about twisted relationships, also stars Atiqa Odho in a pivotal role, besides Shaz Khan and Tooba Siddiqui as the supporting cast.

         7. Rock On 2 – Release Date: November 11, 2016.

If you have seen Rock On, which was a great musical, you cannot afford to miss Rock On 2. While Shraddha Kapoor and Prachi Desai look amazing, the two age—defying lads, Farhan Akhtar and Arjun Rampal will always remain the cool guys! Check out the teaser which was released only two days ago!

         8. Befikre – Initial Release Date: December 9, 2016.

While steamy posters of the leading pair: Ranveer Singh and Vaani Kapoor on beautiful locations are doing rounds on the internet, it only after the trailer release that I’d be able to decide whether to watch this one or not! (Added to the list because like everyone else, I am intrigued.) Till then.. you may watch these as you wait for that!

Until next time,

Samra.
